Langley Xtreme 2001 Goes Undefeated to Win SSWR U14 Fastpitch Tournament
The Langley Xtreme 2001 Rep B Softball team took home the 1st place medal this past weekend in the 2015 South Surrey/White Rock U14 Fastpitch tournament.
In the first game, they beat the SSWR Thunder 01 by a score of 8 – 0 behind a 2-hit shutout pitched by Kayla Michael and Piper French. Sierra Miller came through with 2 RBI’s in the win.
In the second game, the team faced the Maple Ridge Rage 01 and defeated them by a score of 8 – 3. It was an all-around effort with strong pitching and a balanced hitting attack lead by Jacqueline Hudson with 2 hits and 2 runs. Next, the Xtreme faced a scrappy Cloverdale Fury team and won 5 – 4. Ashley Preston had a clutch 2 out, 2 RBI single to tie up the game in the bottom 3rd inning and Rebecca Courneyea smacked a triple to right center in the 4th inning and scored the go ahead run on a single by Jordan Quechuck to secure the win. The fourth game of the Round Robin portion of the tournament was against the South Delta Invaders whom the Xtreme had lost 4 – 2 previously in a tournament earlier in the year. Sierra Miller lead the way with 3 RBI’s and Kaitlyn Cowie had an RBI and another strong pitching effort from both Kayla Michael and Piper French helped the team cruise to a 7 – 2 victory. This victory helped the Xtreme secure 1st place in the Round Robin which set up a date with their rivals from Abbotsford in the Semi Finals.
In the Semi’s, the Xtreme came out strong bolting out to a 5 – 0 lead after 3 innings. Abbotsford battled back to make it 6 – 4 and that is close as they got as the Xtreme defense shut them down to secure the win.
Jayna Hagen scored 2 runs in the game and Nadia Hudson had a fine play at 3rd base to secure the win to allow the team to move on to the finals to play the Invaders.
In the finals, the Invaders were no match for the Xtreme as the team mercied the Invaders 11 – 3 in 5 innings. Sam Cox had 2 spectacular catches in Right Field and Taryn Jenkins homered in the 4th inning to lead the way with 2 RBI’s. The team went undefeated in 6 games to win their first tournament of the 2015 season.
